It's only a few days since AM2 was announced by AMD with the cool new on-chip DDR2 memory controller and Pacifica virtualiztion.


Astonishingly Novatech already has the stuff in stock. The MSI K9N NEO-F motherboard is only 49 pounds +VAT and has the new nForce5 chipset and a passive cooler on the southbridge. For me the only gotcha is that there is only one IDE channel - I haven't made the move to SATA yet (need to save up for that Raptor.) The new CPUs are only slightly more expensive (8 pounds for the 3800 X2.)


I've no idea how stable this stuff is going to be with Linux though. I guess you'd have to be mad to go for a new motherboard and chipset in the first month!
